LEGO Star Wars Droid Tales

Everyone knows the story of the Star Wars series of six films beginning The Phantom Menace.  Of course of the sequence of events are told from a human (or humanoid) point of view.

But what of the robots?  What happened in the just before and during the six film adventures as seen from R2-D2 and C-3PO's points of view.

That's what viewers get to watch as C-3PO recalls the entire Star Wars saga to Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Han and the other rebels as they gather together just after the Ewok victory over the Empire in Return Of The Jedi. Throw in a kidnapping and the stories get even more exciting.

So hold on to your restraining bolt and get ready to relive the Star Wars saga from a decidedly robotic point of view courtesy of LEGO and Disney.

Five episodes make up the collection beginning on Endor and culminating with Geonosis. You've never seen Star Wars like this!

The enclosed Rulebook in the 2-Play Starter Set goes into extensive detail about the game mechanics and strategy.  The more you play, the more you know, the better your chances of winning.

Comics A Global History, 1986 To The Present and Comics Sketchbooks

I've always been fascinated by comic books.  When I was young I aspired to be a comic book artist.  That didn't happen, but my love of comic books never waned.

At first my interest was strictly in American comic books (primarily superhero) and then I discovered underground comic books and from there comic books from all over the world.

Dan Mazur and Alexander Danner, along with publisher Thames & Hudson, share my love of comic books and demonstrate it with their book: Comics A Global History, 1968 To The Present.

Inside the authors tackle the last five decades of comic books as they have appeared in countries all over the world.

From superheroes to cute animals to underground comics to manga each and every genre is explored in extreme detail.

Artists are profiled along with fellow creative types, publishers and every facet of producing comic books.

Comprehensive and filled with insider details and interesting historical text the book examines comic books from all sides from traditional to digital, self expression to corporate titles and intertwines comic book production from regions across the globe.

Speaking as an artist, graphic designer and cartoonist I can tell you that the hardest part about creating any piece of art is coming up with ideas, sketching out those ideas and thinking on paper.

Often the final art is the easy part.  Planning is where blood, seat and tears prevail.

Comics Sketchbooks compiles drawing and sketches from the private sketchbook of some of today's top cartoonists.

Pages are filled with every conceivable type of technique from the ultra realistic to the abstract absurd.

Whatever your preference, you're sure to find an artist's style that will please you.

Get into artists' heads, discover their thought and creative processes and take away a new insight into the creative process courtesy of writer Steven Heller.

Darth Vader, Iron Man 3 and Bob

Once in a while a product line comes along that is unique and original.  Those are they types of products I love to search out and write about.

Several years ago some company put out clever little plastic items that when attached to car or house windows made it appear as if the windows had been broken and tennis balls, rocks, etc. were sticking out of the windows.

What if someone took that concept one step further and incorporated famous movie props and character heads that appeared to be shattering through walls?  Clever, very clever.

That's just what 3D LIGHT FX has done with its innovative new series of iconic movie props.
While technically not toys the 3D Deco Lamps (yes, I said lamps, they light up!) I've placed them in the TOYS review section because they are sure to be a big hit with kids (and kids at heart).

The Darth Vader Helmet 3D Deco Light features a partial Darth Vader Helmet in full-scale and in perfect detail right down to Darth's silver-tipped breathing apparatus.

Like all of the 3D Deco Lights the Darth Vader Helmet requires only batteries and with the simple flip of a hidden switch Darth's eyes and breather plate glow a malicious crimson.

Parents need never worry about the helmet getting hot while on because it is safe to the touch.  The helmet is easy to mount to walls using a two screw anchors and screws.

Place the enclosed wall sticker behind the helmet and its cracked design makes the helmet look as if it has shattered the wall and broken through.

The Darth Vader Helmet comes in an attractive front see-thru panel box, features superb details, solid colors that match the character and is made of durable plastic that is less likely to break if dropped, as are all of the 3D Deco Lights.

The Iron Man 3 Helmet is a full-scale accurate depiction of the famous movie helmet.  Iron Man's eye light up when switched on and the helmet easily mounts to walls once placed over the cracked wall sticker with two screw anchors and two screws.

It makes a great night light for small children.

The Minions movie was a huge hit with audiences.  One of its characters, Bob, is a favorite with kids.

The Bob Minion figure features the entire figure with arms at his side, legs slightly apart and with a stupefied look on Bob's face.

Bob looks slightly taken back with his eyes staring and his mouth partially open.  All of Bob's details are there including his goggles, bib overalls, black gloves and shoes.

My daughter-in-law Jenn loves the Minions and I plan on surprising her with this figure when she and my son come to visit this March.

Like the other 3D Deco Light figures the Bob figure lights up and never gets hot because its LED light bulb which stays cool to the touch.

In just  few minutes you can have Bob mounted to a wall, complete with cracked wall sticker, turn on his light switch and Bob will appear to be crashing through the wall.

The 3D Deco Lights are a clever new way to dress up a room, provide a night light and enjoy your favorite movie props and characters.

No long after the war started both planes were considered obsolete and were relegated to one-way kamikaze aircraft.

By the height of the war both aircraft were primitive in design but during their heyday they were capable aircraft, lethal during combat and state-of-the-art.

Both aircraft feature stationary landing gear, cockpit armament and low-tech communication capabilities.

Choose your decal options and by following the easy-to-understand directions assembly, paint and decal application are a snap!

Super Hornet and LaGG-3

Whether it's a modern jet fighter or a WWII propeller driven fighter aircraft, both are deadly.

The 1/48 Scale Lavochkin LaGG-3 "Japanese Army" Limited Edition WWII aircraft, while decorated with the Rising Sun symbol of Japan, the IJA the original aircraft was constructed by the Russians.

Somehow the Imperial Japanese Army managed to get its hands on one and tested it for combat use in 1942 until the end of the war.

A small aircraft, the LaGG-3 was formidable with its impressive airspeed, deadly weapons and maneuverability.  The single pilot fighter was a barebones aircraft designed for fast and deadly air and ground combat.

Like all Hasegawa Hobby Kits the LaGG-3 is finely and historically accurate sculpted, easy to assemble, paint and decal using the very comprehensive instructions and can be constructed with landing gear up or down.

The 1/72 Scale F/A-18E Super Hornet "VFA-27 Royal Maces CAG 2015" Limited Edition fighter jet model recreates the famous aircraft in use for fifty years.

Based in Naval Air Station Atsugi they are considered some of the most reliable, effective and versatile aircraft in the U.S. arsenal.

With 20mm cannon and fighter capabilities for both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat the slender and long aircraft is loaded for combat, has extended flight tanks and all the latest and greatest high-tech equipment to take on any contender.

Available in two decal versions, the Super Hornet model is impressive both in its interior and exterior.

Paint it, put it together and decal it and you'll have a very realistic model that will impress both novice and seasoned model makers.

"You’ve gotta meet this fella

Oh… life’s a treat with Shaun the sheep

He’s Shaun the sheep .. He’s Shaun the sheep
He’s Shaun the sheep .. He’s Shaun the sheep
He doesn’t miss a trick or ever lose a beat"

The Bursar's Wife

As the only private investigator of the Cambridge Confidential Services George Kocharyan has had his share of unusual crimes and incidents to investigate.

Most of the time his work consists of dealing with unfaithful spouses, domestics incidents and the usual day-to-day humdrum of private investigation.

But, things change, and drastically, when the wife of the Bursar of Morley, Sylvia Booker, hires him to look after her daughter Lucy who has fallen in with the wrong crowd.

George and his assistant Sandra and her teenage son soon discover that Lucy is sneaking off to an apartment of an older man.  An affair?  Maybe not, especially when the unfaithful wife George has been following turns up dead-apparently murdered.

When Detective Inspector Vicky Stubbing steps in and George is left with the nagging suspicion that things are not as they seem and that the death of the unfaithful wife and Lucy's apartment tryst may be interconnected.

Author E.G. Rodford and Titan Books present a mystery novel quite unlike any other featuring the most unlikely of characters intermingled with so many twists and turns readers need a GPS just to keep track.

It's glorious fun in a refreshing new British contemporary crime novel that keeps readers guessing.

Star Trek The Original Series The Latter Fire

Best-selling author James Swallow chronicles a new Star Trek Original Series book that takes place at the end of the Enterprise's first five-year mission.

While exploring an unknown region of space Captain Kirk and his crew come upon a warp-capable spacecraft on the brink of destruction.

Offering aid to the recently deep-space faring alien crew the Enterprise successfully saves the ship, most of its crew and garners gratitude from its captain and crew.

Sometime later, while on a mission to offer Federation membership to the aliens, Captain Kirk, his crew and a Federation ambassador are surprised about how quickly the alien race has advanced its warp capabilities-something that usually takes decades which they have achieved in less than two years.

Unable to ascertain how such a thing is possible Captain Kirk and crew are kept in the dark about the alien's entire space program.

While in discussions with the aliens an armada of their ships is destroyed by a planet-size behemoth.  The Enterprise investigates and almost suffers the same fate.

Does the behemoth have something to do with the alien's new warp capabilities?  Why is attacking them?  What are the aliens hiding?

That's just a few of the questions facing Captain Kirk and his crew.  But, can the questions be answered before the creature completely destroys both the aliens and the Enterprise?

Star Trek The Original Series The Latter Fire is classic Star Trek.  Readers are treated to a brand new adventure of the original crew, introduced to some new (but familiar) crew members and a new threat unseen before, courtesy of Pocket Books

2016: The End

It looks like the end is near.

Over the past 24 years I've written and hosted a website, blog and print publication that contain reviews of pop culture collectibles.

During the last ten years I've watched my supply of review material dwindle to practically nothing.

At one time I could count on a plethora of toys, model kits, trading cards, comic books, anime, manga, games, video games, sports memorabilia, magazines, books, DVDs, diecast and other assorted items arriving on a regular basis.

As it stand snow I'm lucky if some books, DVDs, toys, model kits and occasional magazines show up sporadically.

Needless to say, the lack of material has seriously curtailed my amount of reviews.

I've been expecting it.

With the advent of the internet, the proliferation of social media sites and the cutback on sending out review samples by manufacturers and publishers it makes sense that the glory days of writing reviews from samples has almost come to an end.

Nowadays many businesses want to supply PDFs or photos of their products and expect reviews.  Many require huge numbers of readers to even qualify for samples and yet others only want video reviews.

I hate to see the decline in review samples.  Truthfully I don't have the kind of money it takes to buy a lot of items.  And even if I did, why should I give companies free advertisement for their products and not expect anything in return?

Times are changing and like it or not I have to change with them.  I don't know how much longer my website will hold out.  I'll continue doing my blog as I can always write editorials.

Whatever the outcome, I put it all in God's hands.  After all, if it wasn't for him I never would have received anything anyway.

I look at it this way: if God wants me to proceed, then it's up to him to provide what I need.  He's never let me down before and he won't now.

Whatever happens, I know it's for the best.  It's been a good run. God willing the race isn't over yet.

Love The Coopers and MI-5

Lionsgate has just released two new Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD movies: one's a comedy and the other is a spy thriller.

Family.  No matter how crazy, eccentric, oddball, opinionated and just plain loony-family is family-you're stuck with them.

In Love The Coopers four generations of the Cooper clan decide (or attempt) to have a family reunion.

But, when uninvited and unexpected visitors show up and some turbulent and often comical events pop up the reunion looks doomed-or does it?

Never count out family blood-it runs deep and true and somehow love, compassion and the bond between family strengthens.

For a joyful, heartfelt and touching examination of family and what it means, Love The Coopers is hilarious, touching and proof that love can survive anything...even family.

Extras include 'Making of', Fun On Set and 'Rags The Dog' featurettes, a music video and more.

For edge-of-your-seat excitement and action check out the big movie adaptation of the popular British TV spy series: MI-5.

Terrorism is on everyone's minds nowadays.  No more so than in Europe and the British Isles where an influx of undocumented Middle East 'refugees' are flooding over borders.

When a blood--thirsty terrorist escapes incarceration, Will Holloway has no choice but to team up with Harry Pearce; a disgraced MI5 Intelligence Chief, to track the killer down and stop him before a diabolical terrorist attack occurs in London.

Filmed with the typical British aplomb, MI-5 delivers on all fronts as the excitement intensifies to a bursting point in this high-impact spy thriller filled with lots of action, twists and turns and some unexpected and exciting sequences.

Extras include a 'Making of' featurette and deleted scenes.
