The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

When it was announced that director Peter Jackson would be returning to direct the 3-part Hobbit film Trilogy fans of the original Jackson directed Rings Trilogy were thrilled.  I admit, so was I.

In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie goers are introduced to Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Dwarves, Gollum and all of the other pivotal figures in the Rings Trilogy.

In this first part Bilbo reluctantly agrees to accompany Gandalf and 13 Dwarves as they seek to wrest back control of their long-lost city from the claws of the gold hungry Dragon Smaug.

Along the way they encounter Goblins, Orcs, Wargs and the mysterious and powerful Necromancer.

As the journey progresses Bilbo discovers within himself unexpected bravery and cunning as he helps defeat those who would stop he and his comrades quest.  It also in this first part that Bilbo takes the magical Ring from Goblin thus setting in motion the final confrontation in the Rings Trilogy between good and evil.

If you've seen the Rings Trilogy you MUST see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.  Personally I liked The Hobbit better than the Rings Trilogy in that it clarified much of what was happening and because The Hobbit, being a single book, is expanded into its own film Trilogy, provides much more character studies and story plots and subplots can be explored.

The Warner Bros. Blu-ray/DVD/Ultraviolet Combo Pack also includes a sneak peek of the second part of The Hobbit film Trilogy, production videos and more.
