The Best Of American Comics 2013

You know when award-wining artist/writer Jeff Smith is the editor on a collection of comics from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, that the collection has to be something special.

This is not your typical superhero collection.  In fact, you won’t find a cape and tights wearing individual in any of the stories contained within the collection.

What you will find is an eclectic collection of comics that will challenge you sensibilities, moral standing and preconceived notions of how life and living progress.

Stories range from tales of love, violence, social injustice, prejudice, love, life, death and all the things that make life what it is as seen from a wide-ranging points of views.

Veterans and new talent contribute stories from print and the web placed in the past, present and future.  Illustrations range from realistic to high-stylistic.  While this collection may not be for everyone, everyone should take a look to see what alternatives are available to superhero comic books.
