the Civil War J. Howard Wert assisted the Union force during the Battle of Gettysburg.

the battle raged and during its aftermath he collected and cataloged relics from
the battle including weapons, furniture, uniforms, documents and other items to
preserve for posterity.

years after the conflict he continued to collect and catalog items eventually assembling
the most impressive collection of memorabilia from that bloody battle.
