Back in the 1990s and early 2000s Playmates Toys held the Star Trek license for creating toys, playsets, accessories, etc.

The series was incredibly successful.

Things Star Trek cooled off a bit and the toy line disappeared.

But, now it’s back!

Playmates Toys has recently relaunched its Star Trek line of toys and extras.

The new action figures comes in similarly designed hanger card/standup packaging although slightly down scaled to better fit the redesigned, smaller (five inch figures).

While smaller the figures are less bulky than the original Playmates Toys.

From Playmates Classic Star Trek Movie series The Wrath Of Khan figure set comes Admiral James T. Kirk.

The figure features clever articulation points nicely hidden in the figure’s cloths folds.

Articulation includes pivot, swivel, ball and joint and hinge points all of which make posing the figure (with or without its Action Base) a breeze.

The figure with accessories are secured in a clear plastic cocoon and held in place with plastic coated wires.

Kirk’s features are captured perfectly from his slightly pulled up grin to his hairstyle.

Sculpt for the face is first-rate with fine facial details and clear and clean color application. The same goes for the figure’s hands.

The hands are positioned to securely hold the accompanying accessories which include a Type II Phaser, Starfleet Wrist Communicator and Captain’s Log.

All are movie accurate with clean sharp details.

The figure comes attired in a Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan uniform including the burgundy waist jacket, black belt with gold Starfleet symbol buckle, black trousers with fluted cuffs and black boots.

Details on the uniform include gold piping, insignia, white fluted collar and shoulder decoration.

Cloths’ wrinkles and folds make the attire look real and the articulation of the figure allows the figure to pose realistically.

The package features a painting of the U.S.S. Enterprise and on the back are full accessory stats, a bio of Admiral Kirk and photos of the other figures in the set.

All-in-all its a great way to introduce the next phase of Playmates Toys Star Trek figures.
