One of my all-time favorite DC Comics super groups from the
Silver Age has been reintroduced in DC’s New 52 Universe. I’m talking about Doctor Will Magnus and The Metal
Men. In the last issue of Justice League Cyborg contacts Will Magnus in hopes
that he would revive The Metal Men to fight The Crime Syndicate and save the
Justice League.
At first Will Magnus is reluctant but after Cyborg convinces
him otherwise Will brings The Metal Men back.
In issue #29 The Metal Men are back full swing and ready to
rumble. It’s not long after that they and
Cyborg confront Grid (the sentient computer mind that took over Cyborg’s original
mechanical body).
The Metal Men perform valiantly against Grid and his fellow
criminals: The Secret Society. After The
Metal Men trounce The Secret Society it’s left up to Cyborg to stop Grid who
has tapped into Cyborg’s brain and brought him into his Digital Universe.
Sure of victory, Grid goads Cyborg on only to discover that Cyborg
is far stronger than he realizes and successfully shuts Grid down, trapping him
his mechanical shell.
Just as things look bright for the victors Steve Trevor
shows up with Wonder Woman’s lasso, the one device that may stop The Crime Syndicate. Unfortunately more bad guys show up, incapacitate
Steve and prepare to attack-end of issue.
Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke serve up a tour de force of DC super
heroics that delivers on all fronts. Don’t
