Laverne & Shirley The Final Season

The 1970s a curious phenomenon hit America.  With the success of George Lucas' American Graffiti and the smash hit musical Grease!: starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, the 1950s were popular.

Perhaps it was because those that grew up in the 1950s were encroaching on their 40s or that the United sates was in a state of political, financial, military and domestic turmoil that the sweeter more innocent times of the 1950s struck a cord with the American people.

Whatever the reasons, the 50s were hot and TV executives took notice.

One of the most popular shows that romanticized the 1950s was Happy Days with the Fonz and the gang.  From that show two new characters were introduced: Laverne and Shirley.

So popular was their episode that the producers behind happy Days gave them their own TV show.  It was an instant hit in no small part due to its two principle actresses: Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams.

The show stayed on top in the ratings for a number of years but eventually the nostalgic craze began to fad and the show's producers, writers and stars decided to end the series on a high note.

The final season of the Laverne & Shirley show saw a lot of changes: in particular the wedding of Shirley and Laverne being left on her own, Lenny and Squiggy tracking down a treasure and other cast members embarking on their own dreams.

All of the various episodes made for an excellent send off for the series and they're all collected on a 3-disc DVD set from CBS/Paramount.

The set also includes the original Promos and a Gag Reel.
