One of the pitfalls of retirement is that (in most cases)
retirees don’t have the same amount of income as they did when they were
working. Most times it really isn’t
needed, as expenses aren’t as much.
That’s true in my case.
While I receive Social Security and two small pensions my income is
about half of what it was when I was working.
Fortunately my wife have paid off our house, car and other typically long-term
expenses are nil.
Of course we still pay for utilities, insurance, etc.
Unfortunately it leaves very little money for extra
things. We try to eat out about twice a
week, take in the occasional movie and manage to go on vacation once a year.
Were not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but we’re
not poverty level either.
I mention this because as a lover of Pop Culture I get
frustrated.
There is so much great stuff coming out associated with
comic books, movies, etc. that I’d love to have the cash to buy, but, I can’t.
Oh sure I hit the used book stores, buy myself a gift on my
birthday, Father’s Day and Christmas, but to impulsively go out and purchase an
expensive book, toy or even comic books doesn’t fit our budget.
I’m lucky though, writing and posting Boyce McClain’s
Collectors’ Corner does garner the occasional review sample. For that I am grateful to the companies who
so graciously provide them.
Still, I wish more would come in.
I pride myself on my reviews. I delve deeper into product reviews than most reviewers and post reviews
almost every day.
There are so many interesting Pop Culture items and
merchandise I wish I could review-but, funds simply do not allow it.
