CubeTrick-X 3-In-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Station

(The ZEEHOO Company was the first to provide review samples when I expressed my desire to increase and expand my electronics reviews.  Thank you, it is very much appreciated.)

I love gadgets. ZEEHOO recently sent me a review sample of its CubeTrick-X 3-In-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Station with Ultra-Fast 15W Charging Power.

Let's start with the packaging.

The unit comes in a small, white box with a slip-lid made of heavy paper stock.

Inside the unit is protected by clear plastic slip and is held securely in place with a three-side cardboard accordion made with heavy paper stock.

Below the unit is a small box made of the same paper stock that holds the 5 ft. (1.5 m) USB-C cable and wall plug adapter.

With its Qi2 fast wireless charging it only takes 10 minutes for an hour of phone use.

Once taken out its box the wireless charger needs to plug into a power outlet to charge. Once plugged into power you’re ready to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and Air Pods, all at the same time.

On top of the unit you’ll spot a small button that you touch to auto rotate the upper part of the unit to a 75-degree daily operation angle. Leave it horizontal if you prefer.

A circular magnetic charger disc allows to you lay your i-Phone on the circular pad.

On the left side of the unit is a horizontal inset panel. Press it and a Air Pods recharger pops out. Simple push it in for storage.

On the right side of the unit is a similar panel than when pushed extends out to recharge your Apple Watch. Push it in for storage.

Caution: do not manually turn the phone charger. Use the button as to not damage the unit.

Included with the charger is a manual and a 15-month warranty along with customer service.

Some non-i-Phone cellular phones can also be recharged. Check your specs to see if your cellphone is compatible.

The unit features fast heat dissipation and a light strip at the bottom of the front indicates it is charging.

Four small non-skid feet keep your charger from sliding around.

Take it with you when you travel, keep it in your car, backpack  and suitcase and use it wherever you go.

It’s small size, excellent sleek design and ease of use make it the perfect charging station for quick and easy recharging on the go, at home or in the office.

Pleasing aesthetics are on full display with its gun metal housing, integrated and flush, soft-touch pop-out panels and rotating pad section.

It's a well-thought and planned design that's compact, user-friendly and of high-quality.

Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

The Calvin And Hobbes Portable Compendium Books 7-8

Andrews McMeel Publishing is over halfway through its complete collection of Calvin and Hobbes daily and Sunday comic strip reprints in The Calvin And Hobbes Portable Compendium Books 7-8.

Seven parts make up the series. Book 7-8 contain all the strips from November 1989 to October 1991.

As the series progressed so did the the ability of writer/artist Bill Watterson to mature and refine his work.

Not a line was wasted as Watterson successfully captured the mind and actions of precocious little boy and his pet stuffed tiger toy.

Watterson’s ability to convey the wild imagination, fascination for life, the frustration of trying to fit in and to share Calvin’s unique take on life lends itself to hilarious moments.

The love Calvin has for his imaginary tiger friend Hobbes is genuine. The tiger is his best friend who understands him, tolerates him, frustrates and delights him.

We could all use a little Hobbes in our lives, especially as we grow older and the real world crowds out our youthful hope-filled outlook on life.

I am a huge fan of Calvin and Hobbes and I recommend this series to anyone who wants to relive the awe, wonder and magic of being a young child.

I appre4ciate reading a comic strip that is wholesome, funny without being cruse and endearing.

I was just such a boy as Calvin when I was young and it was only through God's good grace that I was able to be so blessed in my adult life.

Gumby

Artist/writer Arthur Adams is a true pop culture geek.

Fandom knows that Arthur loves Godzilla.  But did you know he also has a fondness for the flexible, rubberized, stop motion animated character Gumby and his horse Pokey?

When Comico was still publishing Arthur drew and wrote two Gumby issues: Gumby’s Winter Fun Special and Gumby’s Summer Fun Special.

In the Gumby’s Summer Fun Special Gumby and Pokey contend with a bully, console a suicidal friend, meet robot neighbors and discover an alien flying saucer.

As their adventure continues they run up against a werewolf and a huge bear alien, tackle pirates, visit a Halloween town with its spooky residents and finally find their way home.

It’s a hilarious romp as Arthur Adams showcases his incredible range as a penciller translating writer Bob Burden’s whirlwind script into pictures.

In the Gumby’s Winter Fun Special Gumby and Pokey once again find themselves in a number of predicaments.

This time its a toy mine cave-in, an underground adventure, mole people, a subterranean amusement park, the rescue of a captured Santa Claus, a meeting with the Devil, the invasion of several giant Japanese monsters and Gumby’s robotic giant Gumby.

Whew!  Arthur Adams and writer Steve Purcell packed enough excitement in one issue than most comic books manage to do in a whole year’s worth of issues.

It's great!  It’s gigantic!  It’s Gumby and Pokey too!

Small Arms For Urban Combat

Warfare has changed drastically over the centuries. For hundreds of years when nations fought against nations most battles occurred in valleys, open terrain, castle sieges and other large battlefields.

Things have changed and now much of warfare is fought in urban areas. Buildings, alleyways, business districts, homes and other areas where large populations congregate are often sites of bloody conflict.

As battles changed so have the weapons used. Up close and personal weapons, especially firearms, are predominately used. Anything from handguns, machine guns, assault rifles, grenade launcher, shotguns and other up close and personal weapons are also used.

In the book Small Arms For Urban Combat A Review, by author Russel C. Tilstra and publisher McFarland & Company, Publishers Inc., invaluable information of the different types of weapons, their capabilities, various brands, how they are used and an examination of weapons soon to be introduced is also included.

Specs, the history of said weapons, their current and past use and a working knowledge of various weapons prepare readers to not only how to use the weapons but which weapons are most effective in certain situations.

If you are a weapons neophyte, such as myself, this book offers tons of information and helpful advice.

I hate murder, assault, plunder and destruction. As a Christian I am to pray for those that do such things.  Vengeance is God's, not mine.

God also grants wisdom.  I have the weapons to stop someone from harming my family or stealing or destroying our property.  I pray I never have to use them.

Psalms 34:4 - I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

One Star Wonders

Have you ever encountered someone that nothing ever pleases them?

You’ve seen them. Their food was late at the restaurant. The lines were too long at the movies. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. And on and on and on.

In author Mike Lowery’s hilarious new small hardbound book, One Star Wonders, published by Andrews McMeel Publishing, the author has compiled one star reviews of locations all over the world.

You’ll read about people complaining that its too cold at the North Pole, the monkeys at Gibraltar, Mount Fuji, the Golden Gate Bridge just being a bridge, being disappointed about the Swiss Alps and dozens more.

Some people you just can’t please no matter what you do.

It’s a delightful and insightful look at the fuss budgets and entitled people who think the world revolves around them and that life should always be perfect.

Of course, they’d probably complain about that!

It's the worst reviews of the world's greatest places complemented by delightful quirky line drawings and colors.

Handyman In-Your-Pocket

Let me start off by saying when it comes to plumbing, electrical, carpentry or anything that has to do with home upkeep and repair and the tools each require I’m at a total loss.

I’m lucky that I figured out what end of a hammer to use to pound in nails. It’s not that I’m dumb, it’s just that I’m ignorant and untrained in said skills and knowledge.

Oh sure, I can go out on the internet and look up things. The only problem is if I don’t know what I’m looking for it’s really a futile effort.

How do I know what type of fastener I should use, how to figure out square footage, the intricacies of electricity and so forth?

Here’s a novel approach. What if someone were to put it all in writing and published a book with all the specs, tools and measurements I can use accompanied by charts and illustrations?

Guess what? Someone has and that someone is Sequoia Publishing with its pocket-size, paperback book appropriately titled: Handyman In-Your-Pocket, 1st Edition, compiled and written by Richard A.Young and Thomas J. Glover.

It’s not only a how-to and information guide for amateurs like myself but an excellent guide for professionals in all areas of construction, carpentry, etc. to keep on hand for at-a-glance reference.

Talk about a time saver and handy information packed must-have!

At a jammed-packed, pocket size 768 pages this information filled, carry-it-in-your-pocket book is amazing. Get one today!

The Batman Batmobile

Like so many things in The Batman animated series, the Batmobile went through a remarkable transformation.  It’s much sleeker and high-tech, lower to the ground and compact.

The shortened, stocky, high-powered Batmobile is all business with its low to the ground profile, custom tires and wheels, open cockpit and sleek, side exhaust vents.

The car has a short hood tapered into the large tinted front windshield.  Narrow side windows obscure the driver.  There is no rear window.

The rear of the Batmobile holds the massive engine twin tapered vents allow the engine to breath and the side exhausts light up and make noises when either of the two buttons on the top vents are pushed.

The rear of the car has four large engine panels glowing a bright yellow and red.

Both the front and the back of the car have large, heavy-duty bumpers.   A bat symbol decorates the front of the car.

Inside full instrument panels, a steering wheel and a custom seat with a real cloth seatbelt make up the cockpit.

The side exhaust panels pop out with the push of a button and twin missiles fire.

The Batman action figure fits easily in the cockpit via the open roof. A Batcycle is also available.

Construction of the Batmobile is sturdy, tough and resilient enough to take hard play.   Components, stickers and the body can take a lot of punishment.  Coloration and textures are crisp and clean, the tires are rubber and the wheels a hefty enough to stand up to hours of play.

The Mattel Toys' Batmobile comes in a see-thru front panel box emblazoned with images of the Batmobile and bat symbol.

An open red circle above the Batmobile allows prospective buyers to test the sound and light buttons.

1950s Television Advertising

As a child of the 1950s and 1960s I was privileged to have grown up during the Golden Era of television. Some of the greatest TV series of all time were produced and broadcast during those two decades.

The 1950s saw advertising and TV networks realize that they had a virtually untapped audience to promote and sell products of all types. And boy did they advertise!

In today’s age of streaming, cable TV and other forms of visual entertainment it may seem a little odd that many TV shows during the 1950s had one main advertiser that not only advertised their product but solely bankrolled particular TV shows.

It was not unusual to see a company’s logo tagged on the front and rear credits of a TV show along with being the sole advertiser during commercial breaks.

I recall cigarette, toy, food, personal hygiene and other company logos popping up everywhere. It was a great time to be a TV advertiser. TV advertising shaped and influenced the American way of life.

There were plenty of product mascots like Snap, Crackle and Pop of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, Bosco with the Paul Winchell puppets and dozens more.

TV celebrities often hawked their show’s advertiser’s products and very often made promotional films for said companies. For example the cast of Bonanza promoted Chevrolet cars and trucks.

In author Vincent Terrace's and McFarland & Company, Inc. Publishers’ newest book: 1950s Television Advertising, both the sponsors and programs that filled the airways are spotlighted.

Lists of TV shows, their spokespersons, advertising taglines and the duration of the shows are listed along with plethora of photographs.

Look for product jingles, slogans and a complete programs and sponsors list.

This book brought back so many pleasant memories of a more innocent time when America’s economy was booming and consumerism reigned.

The Kurgan

Few onscreen villains can beat Highlander’s Kurgan.  Sworn enemy of the Highlander’s Kurgan is ruthless, clever and a resourceful foe who was incredibly powerful.

He is ruthless and determined.  The more than human hulking Kurgan’s only wish is to gain the ultimate prize: immortality.  And he will do anything and kill anyone who gets in his way.

With his pale skin, piercing eyes, shallow cheeks and tattooed baldhead the Kurgan figure is menacingly looking as his human namesake.

Dressed entirely in black leather the Sideshow Collectibles' Kurgan 12-inch figure wears a sleeveless leather jacket with lots of rivets, heavy buckles, zippers and rings he also wears patched together left black leather sleeve with a gray jagged mesh coming from his left breast pocket.

His leather pants has a string of silver buttons running down the crotch area on both sides and his feet are shod in black leather, high-top biker boots.

The figure, along with his accessories its are cradled in a clear plastic form-fitted cocoon behind a clear plastic viewing pane.  Plastic straps assist in keeping the figure secure.

The figure comes in a flip-lid box with the history of the character printed on the inside of the flap.

Archaic symbols decorate the box along with Kurgan photos.

Inside a circular Highlander base and wire support are included.

The Kurgan carries only one weapon: a huge silver double blade sword with and ornate and sharp pommel and black leather strap handle.

The figure easily holds the weapon in his pre-positioned hands.

Coloration on the figure, along with the sculpt work is tight, precise and extremely well done.

Articulation is hidden beneath the cloths and the clothing moves easily over the figure when posed with no bunching or binding.

Various articulation types allow the figure to pose naturally, with or without the stand.

It’s an extremely well done figure with real cloth clothing and the complementary packaging real sets the figure off.

The Day Of The Dead A Celebration Of Death And Life

Here in the United States most of us regard death as separate from life. Much of the world does not. Many countries consider death a part of life-not something to fear but to accept as a part of existence.

Religions of all persuasions all have their own unique take on death and what follows life-be it eternity in Heaven or Hell, oblivion, spectral and so forth.

As Americans we relegate death to funeral homes, graveyards, mausoleums and crypts where we may visit gravesides, leave some flowers or objects that the deceased cherished and then depart.

Over the convening years the visits become less frequent and eventually the very memory of those persons passed on are long forgotten.

Not so in Mexico. Death is not the end. Families celebrate the lives of their deceased loved ones and show reverence to their memories. The Day Of The Dead is a grand celebration about ancestry, the long-held love for lost family or friends and a colorful reminder that one day, we too, will become citizens of the afterlife.

In the massive, hardbound and colorful book published by Rizzoli/Universe: The Day Of The Dead A Celebration Of Death And Life, showcases the incredible festival and event through amazing images of art, photos and more that span back for decades.

Readers will see grand displays of skeleton motif posters, art, costumes and more. Images of the deceased, gravesides, confections, foods, alter pieces, costumed festooned partiers are all on full display celebrating both death and life.

It’s a wonderful examination of a culture and people who don’t shy away from death but embrace and reverence it like an old friend.

It’s loud, brilliant in its hues, outlandish and most of all fun and festive. For a true understanding and appreciation for the The Day Of The Dead, as celebrated by the Mexican people, this book is an excellent tribute to said festivities.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Galaxy Quest

The best Star Trek film ever made?! Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and other stellar movie stars combine their considerable talents to deliver a hilarious Star Trek parody.

When a troupe of has-been TV actors are recruited by an alien race to save their people things do not go well.

It seems the aliens mistook the actors’ as real people aboard a spaceship as seen on their old TV show.  The aliens believe the fictional captain and his crew are true heroes-not actors.

Going along with the charade the fake crew and captain grow fond of their alien guests and feel real sympathy for their plight.

Despite their fear the crew pulls together and faces off against the aliens’ deadly foe.

What makes the film so endearing is while it pokes fun at Star Trek and its fandom it also shows a great deal of respect.

Characters act as if they are actors placed in a very real situation.

Star Trek references include warp drive, transporters, phasers and all the other accoutrements associated with the original Star Trek TV series.

There's the stalwart captain, the cool alien, the young genius ensign, the engineer, the communication officer, even the unnamed crew member that is destined to die.

It’s all played very tongue-in-cheek and for laughs.  It is never vicious to or disrespectful of Star Trek whether it’s the original TV series or The Next Generation.

Even the spaceship when viewed at a certain angle looks like the U.S.S. Enterprise.

There’s plenty of action, humor, touching moments and drama.  The special effect are topnotch, as are the sets, practical effects, music score and the actors and actresses are perfectly cast.

Look for the Deluxe Edition Galaxy Quest lenticular cover DVD set loaded with lot of fun extras from CBS/Paramount Studios

Life With My Dragon

Imagine being a kid. Your pet and best friend is a dragon- a real-life, large fire-breathing dragon!

What kind of fun would you have? What kind of mischief? What kind of trouble?

The writer/artist creator team of Didier Levy and Fred Benaglia present five heart-warming tales courtesy of Thames & Hudson in Life With My Dragon.

Discover what happens when My Dragon gets a cold and the fire department has to be called to put out a fire.

Even dragons get chilly and My Dragons' fire furnace goes out and needs cleaning and things go wrong. My Dragon changes into all sorts of crazy gadgets and machines-even a helicopter!

What happens when a fire gets out of control? Why call My Dragon of course.

Dragons love fires-especially for a snack!

My Dragon has a sore throat. What’s the cure? Cough Syrup? A sweater. No silly! My Dragon likes to dress up in Christmas lights! Even when My Dragon’s throat is a little sore, Christmas lights always make things better.

My Dragon is a heavy sleeper. My Dragon doesn’t even notice the fireflies and just dreams. What do dragons dream of? Wouldn’t you like to know?

Life With My Dragon is a whimsical and delightful collection of tales of a huge red and green dragon with black spots who gets into all sorts of mischief. My Dragon is kind, gentle and a big kid.

I wish I had a dragon when I was a kid.

Collecting Laurel and Hardy

Most modern day moviegoers are familiar with the classic comedy duos such as Martin and Lewis, Abbott and Costello, Wilder and Pryor, Akroyd and Belushi and many other teams up until present time.

But, to me the original comedic team-up that set the standard for all other comedy teams that followed is Laurel and Hardy.

The bowler hat wearing and bumbling duo were tremendously popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Even today their comedic antics delight fans and still bring a chuckle.

During their peak Laurel and Hardy developed a huge fan base and like with any popular pop culture phenomenon merchandising was intense.

In Schiffer Publishing’s deluxe, hardbound book: Collecting Laurel and Hardy, with a foreword by film critic Leonard Maltin, authors Danny Bacher and Bernie Hogya share a visual and historical text-filled book about all things Laurel and Hardy collectibles.

From autographs, posters, toys, dolls, games-you name it, the comedic duo dominated collectibles for all ages.

Full-color and black and white photos, documents, art and more fill the pages. I never realized just how much Laurel and Hardy merchandise there was-it is staggering.

Discover the magic of the comedic pairing that set the standards for all acts to follow in this massive book spotlighting the merchandise that flooded the shelves in their heyday.

Even today new collectibles of the duo are still produced and are popular items of interest.

“That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into!” Yes, yes it is and I love it!

There was a time when cinematic comedy was clean, clever and fun with no profanity or nudity or sex.

It's a shame so much of today's so-called comedy is profane, filthy and sexual.

Mademoiselle Le Sleuth

Sarah, an American actress in Paris, suddenly finds herself in league with her sister Vicki the reporter and her daughter Miranda the would-be detective, investigating a backstage murder.

It’s not easy to mix humor with mystery and intrigue but that’s just what author Theasa Tuohy does in her novel Mademoiselle Le Sleuth, published by France House Press.

The trio investigate amurder in the shadows of the Parisian theaters, cemeteries and streets.

Curiosity and fearless determination guide the trio as they explore the historic landmarks and uncover secrets best left alone that threaten their lives with each step they take.

Assisted by a detective and their loyal golden retriever the sisters and niece plunge into the seedy underside of Paris in an enchanting and captivating tale deep in The City of Lights.

It’s a spectacular guessing game that will have you glued to your seat until the final page in the latest Paris backstage murders.

Blackest Night #8

The shocking conclusion to the Blackest Night maxi-series from DC Comics ends with issue #8!

This is it! The ultimate showdown between the combined Lantern Corps consisting of the various colors of the spectrum, Nekron, the dead Black Lanterns and The Black Hand.

Victory seems assured, as Sinestro (now a White Lantern) appears to strike the killing blow.

Only the power of the Black Lanterns is even more than he can handle and once again the forces of evil rally and nearly defeat all of the Lanterns.

But when the connection to life and the living is breached many of the DC Comics superheroes long believed to be dead choose life and so is born the White Lantern Corps.

Using their power of light and life they attack Nekron and sever his control of the dead heroes he turned into Black Lanterns.

Once again they live, as does the Anti-Monitor whose power Nekron had tapped.

The dead DC heroes now live and are reunited with their friends, families and lovers.  The threat is ended but what of the White Lantern?

Writer Geoff Johns and artist Ivan Reiss knock it out of the park with the final issue of the Blackest Night maxi-series.

To me, Blackest Night maxi-series and crossover events was the best DC limited series ever produced ranking right up there with Crisis On Infinite Earths, Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns.

It is an incredible series that completely transformed the DC Universe.
