In 1982 a science fiction film was released (while not
overly financially successful during its initial showing) would go on to become
one of the most influential science fiction films of all time.
Director Ridley’s Scott’s film Blade Runner, starring
Harrison Ford between his Star Wars and Indiana Jones stints, told the story of
a not too distant future where man has created a cluttered, media littered future
of bio-mechanisms and sentient humanoid androids.
In the film Ford plays a Blade Runner- a person who hunts
down and ‘terminates’ androids who ignore their programming and try to blend in
with the human population. It’s a grime and
dark vision of the future filmed in deep shadows, rubble and clutter and a dank
and wet environment-by no means is it a bright and glittering Utopia.
Cinefex magazine, celebrating the release of the film,
released a special issue dedicated to the film.
It has long since sold out and sci-fi film buffs have made it a ‘must-have’
collectible. Finding an issue is almost
impossible-until now.
Titan Books (in collaboration with Cinefex) has released a
small hardbound book containing the contents of the magazine. Included are dozens of behind-the-scenes
photos, exhaustive text about technical accomplishments and much more.
If you missed the Cinefex issue the first time around this
reprint hardbound is a great way to go.
