For many years during and after the Vietnam War American
television shows barely touched upon American’s involvement in the war.
Of course there were the evening news stories about the
conflict and war demonstrations but popular TV shows (with a few exceptions)
pretty much stayed away from the subject.
The first TV show to tackle the war head-on was Tour of
Duty.
The series took a good hard look at the war and America’s involvement
in it-sometimes with a critical eye.
The show followed the exploits of a particular group of
soldiers from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Comprised of such a varied group of individuals the war was
examined through their eyes. This made
for a TV series that looked at both sides of the war, its people, conflicts,
critical and sometimes fatal decisions and how it affected both friend and foe.
Mill Creek Entertainment presents the entire First Season of
Tour of Duty’s 21 episodes on DVD that offer a clear and startling look at the Vietnam
War and its repercussions felt even today.
Years before digital effects ruled similar films Krull
depended on clever sets and visual effects.
Prince Colwyn sets out to rescue his new bride from the evil
