Fantastic Adventures In The Comics

Some of the very first comic books I was exposed to when I was young were the science fiction and fantasy titles from DC Comics.

I read all about the adventures of Adam Strange, Space Cabby, Atomic Knights and other space faring heroes.

I especially loved DC comics science fiction anthology series where all sorts of weird things happened. Naturally I started picking up Marvel Comics, Charlton Comics and other publishers science fiction and fantasy regular and anthology series.

The heyday for such publications started in the 1940s and really blossomed in the 1970s and 1980s. Such titles are still around but not in the numbers they once enjoyed.

However many of the elements from such series crop up in current superhero comics and other genres.  Science fiction and fantasy play an important part in today's comic book publications.

In author William Schoell’s and McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers’ new oversize softback book: Fantastic Adventures In The Comics: Rockets. Genies, And Bug-Eyed Monsters 1940s To 1980s discover the comics filled with fantastic adventures.

Beginning in the comic book Golden Age up until the Bronze Age the book spotlights various publishers and their titles with full information about the creative teams, certain spot-lighted issues and lots of behind-the-scenes information about each title all complemented with black and white cover reproductions.

For a real insider look at what once was the most popular comic book genre be sure to check out this book. If you love sci-fi, fantasy, horror and weird adventures this is the book to have.
