As much as I enjoy the Michael Bay Transformers movies I was
never a big fan of the original Transformers animated TV show.
By far, the computer animated Beat Wars series was my
favorite. Crudely animated by today’s standards,
Beast Wars shining virtue was its heart.
Excellent scripts, a stellar voice cast and the clever use of the then burgeoning computer
animation techniques, Beast Wars stood out from the typical Saturday morning
children’s fare of the time.
After the series ended its producers and animations upped the
ante on the quality of the computer animation.
By moving the Decepticons and Autobots back to their home planet of
Cybertron the story intensified and the characters went through (yet again) transformations
(this time into Maximals and Vehicons).
Once back on Cybertron Optimus Primal and Megatron forces
battled for the control of Cybertron, which seems to be abandoned, except for
Megatron’s Vehicon drones.
To make matters worse the Maximals have been infected by a
virus that threatens to wipe them out.
