What makes a super-villain?
Why are they evil? Is it because
they chose to be or do they really think of themselves as villains?
Warner Bros. and DC Comics present an up-close-and-personal examination
of DC Comics super-villains in their latest Blu-ray release: Necessary Evil:
Super-Villains Of DC Comics.
Premiering at the New York Comic Con and narrated by
longtime movie villain Christopher Lee the contents of the Blu-ray examines the
role super-villains play in the DC Comics Universe.
Spawned of tragedy, insane, megalomaniacal, world conqueror,
despot, petty thief and crook, paid killer and spawn of evil magic-there are
many forms of evil in the DC Universe, but no one has taken the time, up until
now, to closely examine the motivation behind each super-villain.
Comic books, movies, TV shows and animation of the DC bad
guys from both the past and the present are given their due. Surprisingly without the bad guys the DC
heroes would have no reason to exist. Think of them as the Yin and Yang of
sequential literature: constantly at odds with each other but also balancing
the scale of good and evil.
Industry experts from films, TV, comics, literature and even
the sciences of the mind are interviewed and all offer their unique
perspectives on what makes a super-villain a super-villain.
It’s an intriguing visual study into the mind of evil and
how without it good has nothing to measure up against.
