I’ve always enjoyed the Doom Patrol.
It’s a known fact that The Doom Patrol was created before Marvel Comics the Uncanny X-Men.
The similarities between the two teams have to be more than a coincidence.
Both are headed by injured geniuses in wheelchairs. Both feature people with unique powers and that are outcasts from society.
Despite the fact they are shunned by society they team up to save mankind over and over again. Even their arch enemies' names are similar.
In The Doom Patrol #88 readers are treated to the origin of the Chief: the man in the wheelchair that leads The Doom Patrol outcasts.
The book also shows how the Chief was injured and introduces some major villains that are a constant threat to The Doom Patrol and mankind.
It’s a great introduction to The Doom Patrol and a nice starting point for any new reader of the title.
