The crew of Discovery has traveled 900+ years into the future where The Federation is all but non-existent.
Their efforts bring about the rebirth of The Federation after the Big Burn that disabled all Dilithium powered spacecraft.
The Discovery scouts out and finds a new supply of Dilithium and using that knowledge convinces once former Federation planets to reestablish the Federation.
Michael Burnham is now the captain of the Discovery and finds herself making life and death decisions-many of which are out of her control.
When a Dark Matter Anomaly destroys a space station and a planet the crew of the Discovery must piece together what has caused the anomaly and where its path will lead it.
Unfortunately the anomaly is erratic and upon closer scrutiny it is discovered to be an artificially created phenomenon.
Both The Federation and the Discovery must determine the cause and stop it.
Along the way a new batch of Starfleet Cadets must learn to survive, treachery is discovered and a new threat and an alternate dimension are uncovered.

Extras included several featurettes, a commentary, a gag reel and deleted scenes.
