The Most Watched TV Episode In History!
It had to happen. The cast and crew wanted to go our while the show was still on top. The decision was made that the 11th Season would be the show’s last.
When CBS aired the finale of M.A.S.H. (Goodbye/Farewell and Amen) is was (and is) the highest watched TV show in history (only recently beat by a Super Bowl several years back).
It is has been reported that when M.A.S.H. ended its final show that New York City experienced the highest use of water ever recorded. The reason? Everyone used the bathroom at once having held his or her bladder until the show was over.
An interesting fact, the last showed filmed was not the finale.
The last episode saw the characters burying a time capsule commemorating their time in Korea.
Loretta Swit had the honor of saying the last line uttered in the series amidst hundreds of reported and visitors on the set of the show.
It was a huge event. It’s hard to believe it occurred almost 40 years ago.
In The Last Days Of MASH, from The Unicorn Publishing House, Arlene and Alan Alda chronicle the event in word and photos.
The book provides an up close and personal recollection of the final days of the series.
Included are hand written notes, a final script breakdown and storyboard, behind the scene photos of the cast and crew, tributes and more.
If you love M.A.S.H. as much as I do then this book is a godsend and will be a cherished item.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
